Supports covered by the NDIS funding

The support covered by the NDIS funding is majorly grouped into three parts. This is to ensure that some participants do not use the funding for something different.  

Disability support

The NDIS supports a couple of disability-related health issues. The funding received can be used to purchase these services and enjoy quality healthcare services.

Some of these health issues include nutrition and dysphagia support, diabetes management, and epilepsy support.

Support in employment

If a participant’s needs cannot be catered to by their employer. Say it is probably bigger than what the Disability Employment Service makes provisions for. NDIS funding can be used.  Participants can use the NDIS funding to pursue their employment goals.

This support gives participants the chance to choose where and how they work. Who supports them? And how the support is offered. Participants can use this funding across all employment sectors including governmental organizations.

Reasonable and necessary support

For funding support to be considered reasonable and necessary, the following conditions must be met;

1. The service should represent value for money.
2. The service must be related to a participant’s disability.
3. The support or service should cover support offered by any other benefit you enjoy. E.g. support from other government services like Medicare. Support from family members, your carers, community, and network.
4. It must not include expenses incurred towards your daily activities not related to the disability. For instance, grocery shopping. Grocery is a need. But not related to your disability. So the NDIS funding does not cover it.

Participants can use the support provided by the NDIS to pursue their personal goals. They can also use it to boost their independence. Like buying assisted devices or special equipment.
