Jon Kontopos: Founder of Support Network

Hi, I’m Jon Kontopos, founder of Support Network.

I created Support Network to offer people a more flexible, high-quality way to connect with disability and aged care workers. I’m deeply passionate about making care more accessible and affordable while ensuring it remains of the highest standard. Many disability support workers are not only highly qualified but also incredibly dedicated to their roles. We see them as a vital part of the community and one of the most important components of the home care industry.

At Support Network, we strive to match clients with support workers whose skills, personality, and passions align with their needs. Our approach involves understanding both the client’s specific requirements—such as health conditions and cultural preferences—and the support worker’s strengths. In some cases, complex care demands a team of highly skilled professionals, and assembling the right care team is essential to achieving the best outcomes.

We’ve developed a person-centered care model that works seamlessly within self-managed care systems. A key part of this model involves ongoing support and training for support workers to ensure they deliver consistent, high-quality care. One of the unique features of Support Network is our feedback and rating system. By recording and reviewing client feedback, we provide transparent ratings for support workers, empowering them to set their fees according to their experience, qualifications, and performance.

Another cornerstone of Support Network is our Protection Framework, which focuses on verifying support workers, safeguarding data privacy, and ensuring comprehensive insurance coverage. This framework provides peace of mind for both clients and support workers. Additionally, our dedicated support team assists clients and workers at every stage, helping resolve queries quickly to enable better care outcomes.

We’re also investing heavily in training and mentoring. Recently, we hired our first nurse, who will oversee clinical aspects of care and offer additional training and guidance to support workers. This move reflects our commitment to building a holistic, clinically-informed care model that delivers exceptional outcomes for all involved.

Support Network isn’t just a platform—it’s a learning community. Our mission goes beyond facilitating connections; we’re dedicated to promoting best practices in self-managed care. We’ve studied self-management models from around the world and aim to establish a gold standard for self-management in Australia. This benefits not only clients and support workers but also the government, by helping reduce overall care costs.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to launch a podcast where we’ll share stories from support workers, clients, and other industry professionals. Through these conversations, we hope to spark a broader dialogue about self-managed care—the successes, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. We’ll also engage with policymakers to help shape the future of self-management in light of upcoming NDIS changes.

I want to take a moment to recognize Tanish and Vickey, who have been part of the Support Network team since 2020. Their passion and expertise have been instrumental in our growth, and they’ll play a key role in the success of our podcast and blog initiatives.

As the care landscape evolves, having a platform where different models of care can be explored and discussed is invaluable. At Support Network, we’re proud to provide complex care services to high-needs clients. By assembling expert teams and adopting a holistic approach, we’ve been able to deliver remarkable outcomes. Our growing base of 24-hour care clients reflects this success.

Through the podcast, you’ll hear firsthand from clients about their experiences—why they chose Support Network, the care they’ve received, and how we’ve helped them build the best care teams for their needs. We also facilitate connections with allied health professionals, support coordinators, plan managers, and more. The flexibility and control we offer clients over their care teams and schedules have been among the most appreciated features of our service.

In a world where traditional care models often limit client choice, Support Network stands out by empowering clients to hire, manage, and provide feedback on their care teams. Self-management isn’t just about independence—it’s about collaboration, learning, and achieving shared goals. Our aim is to make this journey as seamless and enriching as possible for everyone involved
