What We Provide Under Support at Home

Everything your funding covers, not arranged around our schedule. Begin with one visit per week and increase as needed, whether weekly or daily visits, it's up to you.

Personal care

Showers, dressing and grooming, ongoing support with toileting and mobility, in a patient and dignified manner, by a known person.

Domestic assistance

Keeping your home the way you like it, cleaning, laundry, changing bedding, tidying and the chores that can get harder to do.

Meal preparation

Shopping and cooking the food that you want to eat (including the food you like from your childhood), prepared the way you like.

Social support & community access

Company at home, outings, appointments, clubs, church or the shops, the bond that makes life your life.

Transport

Getting to medical appointments, therapy, family visits and errands, with someone who comes in with you if you would like them to.

Respite for family carers

Care breaks that allow the individual who is mainly responsible for caring to rest, work, or enjoy an afternoon of their own.

Overnight & sleepover support

Someone in the home all night to be safe, to provide help at night or to help the family carer sleep through the night.

Nursing

Wound care, medication management, and clinically-supported continence care and oversight by registered nurses, fully funded, so no cost to you.

Allied health & therapy

Assessment by occupational therapists, physiotherapists and podiatrists, many of whom can assess your home, which can lower your paid support needs.

Clinical services cost you nothing

With Support at Home, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and podiatry is fully government funded and you do not contribute towards this service, even if you have no income or assets. If they are something you're being billed for, ask about it. Personal care is being fully funded from 1 October 2026.

Why Sydney Families Choose Us

The majority of providers will dispatch you to the person that is rostered. We do something different, and it affects both who walks through your door and what you pay.

You choose your own support worker

You view profiles, meet or talk with people and make your decision. When you don't match, you change, no hard word with a coordinator. Intimacy is a part of support, and compatibility is not a detail.

Your funding buys more hours

Our Sydney rates are approximately $45 to $70 per hour, compared with a traditional agency's $70 to $95 per hour; with no agency involved between you and your worker, our costs are lower. On a mid-level classification, that is about three hours of additional support per week, from the same budget.

We look for workers who live near you

In a city of this size, a worker sent all the way to the other end of town will be late, travel charges will be incurred, and eventually the worker will get tired of it and refuse the shift. First we examine who is really close to your suburb.

Language and cultural matching

We match in language, culture and gender where it counts. This is not just a nice thing to have, it is a critical factor in Sydney for many families when determining whether care will be accepted at all.

The same person, week after week

It's all about continuity in support. A worker who knows your routine is aware of any change, and that's how problems are detected in the early stages before they become emergencies.

Straight answers about money

We provide a comprehensive written price list before you commit, clarify what your classification includes, and if we are not the right company for you, we tell you so.

Support In Your Own Language

Sydney has the most culturally diverse older population in Australia, and the home care market has not always kept pace. This is one of the things we do best.

The 2021 Census shows that 36 per cent of NSW's population aged 65 years and over were born overseas and 20.6 per cent of people at home speak a language other than English. In that group, 40% do not speak English very well or at all. Other research also suggests people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are about 70 per cent less likely to enter residential aged care, highlighting a strong preference to reside in their own homes, where these services are supposed to be used.

If a support worker is not fluent in the same language as the client, everything falls back to the bare minimum. Pain goes undescribed. Worries go unspoken. Food comes that no one desires. And personal care is often refused entirely, as being undressed by an unknown person with no explanation of what is to follow is frightening in any language.

Sydney makes this possible because its communities are geographically concentrated, Italian and Greek through the inner west, Vietnamese around Cabramatta and Fairfield, Chinese languages in Hurstville, Chatswood and Eastwood, Arabic through Lakemba and Bankstown, Korean around Strathfield and Eastwood, South Asian communities through Harris Park, Parramatta and Blacktown.

Languages we match: Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Greek, Italian, Korean, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Nepali, Tagalog, Spanish, Persian, Turkish, Indonesian, Thai

Subject to availability in the suburb and for the hours required. Just tell us the exact language and we will give you a straight answer about what we can do for you in your area.

Important if dementia is involved

Dementia can cause a person to forget languages that they have learned later in life, but retain their first language. A person who has been fluent in English for sixty years in Sydney may switch almost exclusively to Italian, Greek, Cantonese or Arabic, at which point a worker who doesn't speak that language is truly at a loss to communicate with them. Planned transitions by families are far better managed than crisis transitions.

What Our Services Cost In Sydney

Few, if any, aged care providers publish rates. We do, because comparing them is the most useful thing you can do; and ours hold up.

Service With Support Network Typical full-service agency
Personal care, weekday $45–$70/hr $70–$95/hr
Domestic assistance $45–$62/hr $65–$88/hr
Social support & community access $45–$65/hr $68–$90/hr
Overnight sleepover Flat rate, from ~$280 $280–$450/night
Registered nurse visit Fully funded, $0 to you Fully funded, $0 to you
Occupational therapy / physiotherapy Fully funded, $0 to you Fully funded, $0 to you

These are indicative Sydney ranges for 2026. Loadings are in effect on weekends or public holidays. We provide a comprehensive written price list first before finalising any orders.

What that difference is worth

Take a Classification 5 participant: $39,697 per year, made available in $9,924 per quarter. Following the 10 percent care management deduction, about $8,932 per quarter is left for services.

Hourly rate paid Hours per quarter Hours per week
$88, typical agency rate 101.5 about 7.8
$62, with Support Network 144 about 11.1

That's about three and a quarter additional hours of support each week, from the same funding. The gap increases to almost five hours per week on Classification 7.

What You Contribute

Your out-of-pocket contribution is a percentage of the service price, determined by an income and assets assessment undertaken by Services Australia. All clinical services are free to everyone. Personal care and other independence services cost 5 to 50% depending on your means, and everyday living services cost 17.5 to 80%.

A full pensioner who pays for a $65 hour of personal care contributes $3.25. A self-funded retiree who doesn't have a health card pays $32.50 for the same hour. Both pay nothing for nursing.

One piece of paperwork worth doing

Those who have not done an income and assets assessment with Services Australia are recorded as 'means not disclosed' and charged the maximum contribution rate, as if their income and assets are at their maximum level. Others forego it and end up paying self-funded-retiree rates on their pensions.

Understanding Your Support at Home Funding

Support at Home was introduced as a replacement for Home Care Packages from 1 November 2025. This is the condensed version of how the budget works, and how to ensure that it doesn't run out of money.

Annual funding by classification

Eight classifications replaced the previous four package levels. Funded from 1 November 2025 and indexed every 1 July.

Level Annual funding
1$10,731
2$16,034
3$21,966
4$29,696
5$39,697
6$48,114
7$58,148
8$78,106

Your classification is based on an aged care assessment made through My Aged Care, and the annual budget is based on this classification. The money comes in four quarterly payments and 10 per cent of each payment is given to care management before any care is purchased, leaving 90 per cent of the headline figure available.

The mistake that costs people thousands

Only 10% of your quarterly budget or $1,000, whichever is larger, can be carried over. If the amount is more than that, it goes back to the government at the end of the quarter.

On Classification 6 at $12,028 a quarter, someone who spends only $7,000 carries about $1,203 forward and loses roughly $3,825 permanently. Budgets are reset in July, October, January and April. We monitor this for those we support and report it when it can still be prevented.

Funding that sits outside your quarterly budget

  • Assistive technology and home modifications (AT-HM), walkers, rails, ramps and bathroom modifications are covered separately, so equipment does not eat into your service hours.
  • Restorative Care Pathway: around $6,000 for up to 16 weeks of goal-driven care, typically provided after a patient has been hospitalised or has fallen.
  • End of Life Pathway, extra funding to ensure a person is comfortable in their home.
  • Unspent Home Care Package funds, if you moved from one provider to another, will follow you and have no maximum limit.

All of these are optional. If you ask us we will tell you what you might be owed, or you can ask about them.

Getting Started With Us

Four steps, the first being a free phone call.

Tell us what you need

Call 1300 671 931 or send us an enquiry. Enter your suburb, classification (if you have one), the support that you are seeking, and any other specific things (such as language and gender, times of the day). If you don't have funds available, we will help you understand the options available to you via My Aged Care and what to expect.

We find workers near you

You will find people to help you who live near your suburb and are the kind of people you have asked for. You determine who is available, not who you have been assigned to, and we are truthful if a specific combination is difficult to fill in your region.

You meet them and decide

Talk with or meet the individuals we recommend before committing to anything. You choose who supports you. We don't worry if the first one is not right, we keep on looking, that's it.

Support starts, and we stay in touch

Your worker starts work at the time you agreed. We verify that it is working, monitor your quarterly budget and make sure that you don't miss anything, and we adjust based on your needs.

Do not have funding yet?

Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 (free interpreters available on TIS National 131 450). From approval to funding typically takes 3-6 months, so if you need some assistance, it's a good idea to get started in advance. Sydney families frequently hire us privately while they wait and then simply stick with the same worker from the start of their plan.

A rule of thumb is that at an assessment, you talk about the worst day of an average week, not the best day. Assessments are sometimes made on a good morning and families sensibly gloss over the picture, resulting in a classification that is based on a performance, not a life.

Where We Work Across Sydney

From the eastern suburbs to Penrith, the Northern Beaches to the Shire. Not all areas are available and we will be honest with you as to what it looks like in your area.

Support workers travelling across Sydney to reach clients near their suburb
We're searching for employees who live close to you, if someone is late to work in a city this size, it's a problem.

Inner and Eastern Suburbs, availability of good workers, although getting access to apartments and paid parking is a reality that we plan for.

Inner west, good coverage and the best part of Sydney for Italian, Greek and some Asian language matches.

North shore and Northern Beaches, good for those who live closer in; travelling to the peninsula during peak times means we cater for workers who live in the area.

Western and south-western Sydney, the largest older populations in the city and the highest cultural diversity. It is a high demand area and we begin looking early and are upfront about timeframes.

Southern Sydney and Shire, good coverage with strong matching in Chinese language in the areas around Hurstville and Kogarah.

Outer fringe, the Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains foothills and south-west growth corridor. Availability is thinner, and it's worthwhile to get in contact with us in advance.

Questions People Ask Us

Do you provide Support at Home services across all of Sydney?

Yes. We link participants to support workers throughout Greater Sydney, from the inner city and eastern suburbs to the inner west, north shore and Northern Beaches, western and south-western Sydney, the southern suburbs and Shire to the outer fringe. On contacting us we are very particular about hiring someone who lives in the vicinity of your suburb and not someone far away.

Can you match me with a support worker who speaks my language?

Yes, in most cases, and this is our specialism. There is a strong geographical concentration in Sydney, with matched workers, for example, available locally in Italian and Greek (inner west), Vietnamese (Cabramatta, Fairfield), Chinese languages (Hurstville, Chatswood, Eastwood), Arabic (Lakemba, Bankstown), Korean (around Strathfield). Let us know the exact language and gender you would like and when you need it, and we will give you a straight answer about what is available in your area.

What Support at Home services do you provide?

Personal care, domestic help, meal preparation, social and community support, transport, overnight and sleepover support, nursing, and allied health (including occupational therapy and physiotherapy). Support can be offered as little as one visit per week, or daily support as needed, depending on your classification.

How much do your services cost?

In Sydney the cost of our support worker is around $45 to $70 per hour for personal care and domestic assistance, whereas hiring a support worker through a traditional full-service agency is about $70 to $95 per hour. Loadings are applicable for weekends and public holidays. Clinical services such as nursing and allied health are fully government funded, so they are provided to you for free, no matter how much money you earn or have in the bank. A comprehensive written price list will be sent before you agree to anything.

Can I choose my own support worker?

Yes, this is at the heart of our work. You meet or speak with workers first, you choose who supports you, and you can change if it does not feel right. Instead of relying on one agency's list of candidates, you have a much better chance of finding a person who really fits you when you're looking through the entire pool of available candidates.

How quickly can you start?

This depends on the suburb, the time you need and any special needs like language. In well served areas of Sydney we can organise support in a week or two. More complex combinations take longer (a specific language, early mornings or an outer suburb, for instance), and we do not pretend to be able to offer a date when we cannot.

Do I need Support at Home funding to use your services?

No. We work with Support at Home participants, Home Care Package recipients who moved across, those participating in the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, as well as privately funded clients. We are often used as a private service by families, and once they receive funding, we can continue to work with them using the same worker.

What if I already have a provider?

Under the current rules there are no exit fees, you can switch providers at any time and your funding follows you. The changeover is handled for you, along with liaising with your previous provider, so there is no gap in your support. The majority of people find changing much easier than they thought.

How much is Support at Home funding in 2026?

They range from $10,731 per year at level 1 to $78,106 per year at level 8. The funding is paid quarterly, and 10% of the funding available for each quarter is paid to care management prior to purchasing services. They are indexed on 1 July each year, check with My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to find the latest amounts.

Did Support at Home price caps start on 1 July 2026?

No. Price caps were legislated to start 1 July 2026 but deferred in May 2026, with no new start date announced. Unfortunately, many websites are still claiming caps, they aren't there right now. Providers are still required to display complete price lists and are not allowed to charge a separate administration, entrance or exit fee.

When does personal care become free?

From 1 October 2026, personal care (showering, dressing, grooming and continence support) becomes a clinical support, which will be fully funded by the government and will not require any contribution by the participant.
