Looking for a SIL Home? Here's How Support Network Can Help

Choosing a supported living home is difficult, and it usually falls on people who already have a lot on.

Perhaps you are medically ready to leave hospital, but you don't have anywhere to go. Perhaps you are living with parents who are getting older, and everyone is quietly wondering what happens next. Perhaps you live in a share house where the mix has never quite worked.

No matter where you're beginning, you shouldn't have to ring twenty providers to find out who has a room.

This is Support Network's job. And it's free for you.

What We Actually Do

We talk to SIL providers nationwide about the homes they operate and the rooms they are offering. We keep in touch with them, so we know what's open now and what's coming up.

When you come to us, we listen to what you're actually looking for, not just your funding and support needs, but the practical things that decide whether a home works. Whether you're an early riser. How much noise you're comfortable with. Whether you want a busy household or a quiet one. How close you need to be to family, work, or your day program.

After that, we'll let you know which houses may be a good fit and make the introduction.

It's up to you to decide the next steps. We are not here to talk you into anything.

What It Costs You

🆓  Nothing. We don't charge participants, families, support coordinators or plan managers. Not for a conversation, not for an introduction, not at any point.

What We Won't Do

We won't push you toward one provider. There should be options to choose from and you should have the time to look into those options. If we only showed you one home, we wouldn't be much use.

We won't pretend a home is right when it isn't. We'll tell you if we don't think somewhere is right for you. It's a house you'd be living in, not a box to tick.

We won't rush you. The choice of a home is a serious one, and it usually takes a few months. We'd rather you moved somewhere that lasts.

Why The Household Matters As Much As The House

The first thing people tend to think about is the building itself: how many bedrooms, whether there's a good bathroom, how far it is to the shops. Those things matter.

But what usually decides whether someone settles is the people already living there, and how you like to live.

For some it is a great thing to have a calm home, early bedtimes and a predictable schedule, but for others it is a lot of work. A busy, social household is the same in reverse.

🏡  Neither is better. What matters is which one is right for you.

So when we're looking, we ask providers about the people, not just the property. Who lives there now, what the evenings are like, whether it runs quiet or lively. We then try to find the area of overlap between that and what you've shared with us.

If You Are A Support Coordinator Or Plan Manager

Same offer, and no charges for you either.

Tell us what your participant is looking for and we'll come back with providers who genuinely have capacity and would suit, so you're not making the same 15 phone calls you made last time.

We're not trying to be in the middle of you and your participant. You maintain the relationship and you make the recommendation. We simply shorten the search!

How To Start

Have a conversation with us. No form to fill in first and no obligation.

Let us know where you're looking, what type of support you need and what type of home you'd like to live in. We will be honest with you about what's available and what isn't.

Talk to us about what you're looking for

📩 Free, no pressure and no obligation to choose anything.
