Support Coordination for Newcastle and the Hunter

Newcastle is one of the biggest population centres in regional New South Wales, and together with the Hunter it has a significant number of NDIS participants. It faces a challenge the big capitals don’t: a thinner pool of providers, so skilled coordination really matters.

The Hunter has a high concentration of providers in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie urban centre, but they’re more spread out towards Maitland, Cessnock and the Port Stephens coastline. Especially in the regional areas, it can make all the difference whether someone can find a provider who offers the support you need and has the capacity to deliver it.

Our coordinators support participants from the Newcastle CBD and the beaches around Lake Macquarie, up to Port Stephens, out to Maitland and down to the vineyards near Cessnock, with the knowledge to connect them to the right providers even where those are scarce.

Areas we serve include Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Charlestown, Cessnock, Port Stephens, Cardiff, Belmont, Raymond Terrace, Kurri Kurri and Wallsend.

Support Coordination in Newcastle: Your Questions

Are there fewer providers in a regional area like the Hunter than in the cities?

Yes, the provider pool is smaller, and that’s exactly why a support coordinator is so valuable in the region. We help you avoid the long waitlists and dead ends you can hit going it alone.

Do you coordinate supports throughout the Hunter, or just Newcastle?

The whole region, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, the Port Stephens coastline, Cessnock and the wider Hunter. We coordinate face to face where available, and remotely.

Is support coordination free of charge?

No, but you don’t pay out of pocket. If support coordination is funded in your plan under Capacity Building, it’s paid directly from your plan’s funding. You won’t receive an invoice unless you’re self-managed, and it doesn’t come from your core supports.

What are the three levels of support coordination?

Level 1 is Support Connection ($80.06/hr in 2025-26), a lighter connection to services. The most common level is Level 2, Coordination of Supports ($100.14/hr). Level 3, Specialist Support Coordination ($190.54/hr), is for complex needs or high risk and is provided by more qualified practitioners.

Can I choose my own support coordinator?

Yes. If support coordination is included in your plan, you choose who provides it, you won’t be told who to use, and if it’s not the right fit you can change coordinators.
